Barbarian

The Barbarian is drawn from the nomadic tribes that protect the foothills of Mount Arreat. He is built around weapon mastery and physical force, with the broadest weapon compatibility of any class in the game. His secondary role is battlefield commander — his Warcries debuff enemies and boost allies, making him one of the most valuable party members even when not dealing the most damage.

Weaknesses

The Barbarian's performance curve is steeper than most classes. He scales better with gear than almost anyone else, but this means early and mid-game phases — particularly on a fresh start — are a consistent struggle. Most of his competitive endgame configurations require specific high-value items before the build activates, and the gap between a well-geared Barbarian and an under-geared one is larger than on classes that come online more naturally through skill investment alone.

Playstyle & Skills

Combat Masteries passively increases proficiency with specific weapon types — axes, swords, poles, and so on — providing bonuses to attack rating, damage, and speed based on the weapon being used. Combat Skills holds the active attacks: Whirlwind for area coverage, Berserk for magic damage against physically immune targets, and Frenzy for high single-target speed. Warcries covers both offensive shouts that stun or debuff enemies and defensive shouts that increase party resistances, speed, and damage output.

The Barbarian also gets Leap and Find Item — utility skills that add significant value in farming contexts outside of pure damage output.

Early Game & Leveling

The Barbarian's early game is the hardest start of any class without incoming gear. His skill options before level 30 are limited, and the ones available — primarily Double Swing — require dual wielding to perform well, which creates gear dependency early. War Cry at level 30 changes the picture substantially, providing strong crowd control through stun while dealing viable damage. Players pushing from scratch often supplement with consumables and Gambling during the early acts to stay equipped, as the class is unusually gear-sensitive in Normal difficulty.

Farming & Endgame

Find Item is the Barbarian's most distinctive farming advantage. Used on a corpse, it applies a second chance to roll loot from the same monster, effectively increasing the number of drops from elite kills by around 30%. No other class replicates this. For characters focused on elite hunting in specific zones, this pushes his effective loot generation significantly above what his raw clear speed would suggest.

Berserk converts physical damage to magic, which bypasses Physical Immune monsters and makes it the primary tool against targets that block conventional melee. Combined with Find Item, the Berserk Barbarian is the standard recommendation for efficient high-elite farming once appropriate gear is assembled.

Their war cries carry genuine supernatural force, and their mastery of weapons is unmatched by any other culture in Sanctuary.

With word of Diablo's return spreading across the world, a small number of Barbarian warriors have ventured beyond the Steppes for the first time — armed, watchful, and seeking the Prime Evils.
