The Sorceress channels elemental forces directly — fire, cold, and lightning — without the need for weapons or physical combat. She is built around cast rate and spell damage, which makes gear selection different for her than for other classes: instead of weapon damage or attack rating, she prioritises faster cast rate breakpoints, resistances, and skill level bonuses. She is the most common starting character for new playthrough cycles because she can farm the gear other classes need before those classes are playable.
Weaknesses
The Sorceress's defence is the lowest in the game. She gains minimal life per level and per vitality point, and her armour class is not a meaningful survival tool. In practice, this means she relies on repositioning and crowd control rather than absorbing damage — Teleport and Frozen targets are her primary safety mechanisms. Despite this, she is the conventional recommendation for first characters precisely because her damage output and mobility allow her to farm gear for other classes before those classes are playable.
