Warlock

The Warlock was introduced with the Reign of the Warlock expansion as the eighth playable class. Where conventional spellcasters project elemental energy, the Warlock channels magic itself — a distinction that shows up mechanically in a skill tree dedicated to pure Magic damage, which bypasses elemental immunities entirely. The class also introduces a passive trait that allows weapons to be wielded without occupying the off-hand slot, enabling two-handed weapons to be used simultaneously with shields or the Warlock's exclusive off-hand item type, Grimoires.

Weaknesses

The Demon tree's depth means build planning requires more forethought than most classes — distributing skill points incorrectly between the primary tree and the Demon support skills is easy to do and hard to recover from without a respec. Mobility is also a step behind the Sorceress: Blade Warp is a significant improvement over no repositioning skill, but it does not match Teleport for raw speed across large zones, which shows up in farming route comparisons.

Playstyle & Skills

The Chaos tree covers Fire and Abyss damage and is the most accessible starting point — skills come online at earlier levels and the damage type is effective across most of Normal and early Nightmare. Eldritch focuses on raw Magic damage, which has no elemental counter and bypasses most immunity configurations. Demon centres on the Bind Demon mechanic, which lets the Warlock capture a Super Unique monster and deploy it as a permanent companion that retains its original auras and affixes — including Conviction, Fanaticism, or Amplify Damage depending on the target captured.

Consume and Bind Demon feature in most builds regardless of primary tree: Consume provides a damage and survivability bonus when cast on minions, and Bind Demon provides a flexible support layer that adapts to whatever you have captured.

Early Game & Leveling

The Chaos tree provides the most comfortable leveling path — Fire and Abyss spells function from early levels without gear dependency, and the skill investment pays off at a pace that keeps Normal difficulty manageable. The Eldritch and Demon trees produce better results at higher skill levels and with gear that supports their mechanics, so they become more competitive later in the progression. Blade Warp, available at level 18, improves traversal speed and lets the Warlock pass through blocked paths, providing a movement advantage that other non-Sorceress classes do not have.

Farming & Endgame

The Warlock's endgame options spread across multiple configurations. Fire builds handle dense zones where mob clustering amplifies area damage. Eldritch builds targeting Magic damage are most effective in zones where elemental immunities would otherwise stall progress. A bound Conviction demon removes the need to rely on a Mercenary or equipment to break resistances, expanding the number of zones a single build can clear without respeccing.

Pairing a bound demon with Blood Oath provides meaningful Damage Reduction without sacrificing offensive investment — an option most caster builds do not have access to.

The Warlock is the eighth class introduced to Sanctuary, arriving with the Reign of the Warlock expansion. Where other casters draw power from elemental forces, divine faith, or the boundary between life and death, the Warlock taps into demonic energy directly — binding, consuming, and commanding the creatures of the Burning Hells.

The Warlock's three skill trees reflect different approaches to this dangerous art. The Chaos tree channels destructive Fire and Abyss damage. The Eldritch tree manipulates Magic-type damage through enchanted blades and direct-damage spells. The Demon tree focuses on summoning, binding, and consuming demons to fuel the Warlock's own power.
