Arcane Sanctuary
The Arcane Sanctuary is a floating labyrinth in Act 2, home to the Summoner and populated by Ghosts and Specters. While not a max-level area, it serves two distinct purposes: farming the Key of Hate from the Summoner, and exploiting the exceptional rune drop rates from Ghost-type monsters.
The Summoner is the exclusive source of the Key of Hate, one of three keys required to open Pandemonium portals for the Uber Tristram fight. Ghost-type monsters in the Arcane Sanctuary have elevated chances of dropping runes because they cannot drop armor or weapons — those slots on their drop table are replaced by additional chances at runes, jewels, and charms.
Use the Arcane Sanctuary waypoint, which places you in the center of the map. The Summoner spawns at the end of one of the four directional paths.
- Ghosts and Specters are Physical immune. Elemental or Magic damage is required to kill them.
- Characters can fall off the narrow platforms. Be cautious with movement skills near edges.
- The Summoner himself is very fragile — a single hit usually kills him.
- Fire Resistance matters most here. The elemental damage from monsters is otherwise manageable.
- Hammerdin and other Magic-damage builds excel because they handle the Physical immunities effortlessly.
