Level your Assassin from 1 to 75 using Fire Blast / Wake of Fire → Lightning Sentry / Death Sentry. Includes skill progression, stat allocation, and gameplay tips.
Overview
This guide walks through leveling a Assassin from 1 to 75 efficiently. Uses Fire Blast / Wake of Fire → Lightning Sentry / Death Sentry with a respec around level 32-38. By the end you will have used 1 of your 3 respeccs and be ready for your endgame build.
The Assassin levels with Fire Blast and Wake of Fire through Normal, then respecs to Lightning Sentry and Death Sentry for the rest of the game. The trap setup deals damage safely from a distance. Shop for +skills claws early and craft a Spirit broad sword. Stealth armor and Lore helm are essential early upgrades. Use Cloak of Shadows to control dangerous packs and Mind Blast to stun problematic enemies. Upgrade to Treachery armor in Hell.

- Armor: Stealth (Tal+Eth) in any 2-socket body armor — FCR, FRW, mana regen. Upgrade to Treachery (Shael+Thul+Lem) in Hell for massive IAS and fade proc
- Weapon (Claws): Shop for +skills claws from vendors (Anya in Normal/Nightmare). Dual +3 trap skills claws are ideal. Spirit (Tal+Thul+Ort+Amn) in a 4-socket broad sword as backup
- Shield: Rhyme (Shael+Eth) in a 2-socket shield — CBF, resists. Any resist shield if you go dual claw
- Gloves: Any with IAS, resist, dexterity
- Belt: Any with resistances and life
- Boots: Any with FRW and resistances
- Rings: Rare rings with life, mana, resistances
- Amulet: Any with resistances or +skills
- Mercenary (Act 2 Nightmare — Holy Freeze): Insight (Ral+Tir+Tal+Sol) in a 4-socket polearm — meditation aura for mana. Armor: Stealth or Smoke (Nef+Lum) or Treachery. Helm: Bulwark (Shael+Io+Sol) or life leech helm
